Are You the Doctor?

Are you the doctor? A patient says to me.
I can see the look in their eyes.
Follow me this way I say, please enter the room.
No after you doc, no after me.
Ladies first doc, you first I insist.
No, I insist, please enter.
Are you the doctor? A patient says to me.
I can see that look in their eyes.
As they sit down, they feel the need.
The need to move the chair just an inch closer.
Did I pronounce your name right? I say.
Oh yes you did thanks doc.
Doc, I’m not going to bother with your name, it’s rather different.
What’s in a name after all? I ponder for a brief moment.
Alright, how can I be of help today?
Are you the doctor? A patient says to me.
I can see the look in their eyes.
I didn’t want to bother my male Doc with this.
Here are my requests, please complete.
This is what my online research says I have.
I have already booked my specialist appointment.
All I need from you doc is just a referral.
By the way doc, I have all these forms I need by tomorrow.
Can I just leave them and pick them up?
Are you the doctor? A patient says to me.
I can see that look in their eyes.
I like your shoes by the way, they say.
So where were you born?
You have nice teeth.
You speak good English.
Oh, really? Should I be flattered?
Can I touch your hair?
You look far too young to be a doctor.
I had not realised you are that qualified.

Are you the doctor? A patient says to me.
I can see the look in their eyes.
That look, that look.
That look that says it all.
The look that says it all.
