In a matter of 8 months you are going to have 4 months of bliss. No work to do at all you can enjoy the travels with TheHandsomeSurfer. You will get to put all that Spanish into practice. Chile, Bolivia, Galapagos Islands and Argentina we will explore. Hike, surf, dive, run, relax and just be.

You can work a day and a half, and the bugger will still be sorted. But, that means you have to carry the bugger for longer. You have 183 000 reasons to get rid of the mortgage. In less than 4 years you will say Adios! What will you do with these 4 days when the mortgage is gone?

A days work will see you give generously to your family or causes that matter. The everyday day things are sorted by another days work. Then comes more fun stuff, a whole days work so you can be in good health. You can continue do all the fun stuff you enjoy.

It is after all 18 days of retirement or 12 days of semi-retirement.

12 days of semi-retirement will soon be 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, then 0.
In future the reasons to work will become less.
You can work for the fun of it.
You can draw down from the nest egg and enjoy the fruit of your toil.
I am enjoying the fruit of my toil now.
Making hay whilst the sun shines.
The light is indeed in sight, there will be many more days of no toil.

TheFrugalDoctor has been pondering: For each day’s work where is the after tax income allocated? I have calculated the after tax income and my monthly contribution to our household. These are the current monthly budget allocations for 2024-5.
I would take 12 days of working each month for sure! I can’t wait to get to that point in the journey. I am so excited for your mini retirement! Not much longer!
I’m sure it will be a matter of time for you. Enjoy the journey, it’s a process. Remember you can make some lifestyle changes along the way. Sometimes it’s a rapid race to FIRE, slow FI is a sustainable option.
